Plug type G (UK plug)

Plug type G is particularly widespread in Great Britain and the international Commonwealth of Nations and is known as the “Commonwealth plug”. The Commonwealth plug and the corresponding socket can therefore no longer only be found in the UK, but worldwide, e.g. in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, China, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Design and application of the Commonwealth plug BS1363

The Commonwealth plug has three rectangular pins and a fuse in accordance with the British standard BS1363. The three pins are called the outer and neutral conductors as well as the earthing contact.

The pin of the outer and neutral conductor has the following dimensions: 4 x 6 x 18 millimetres. 9 millimetres of the pin are insulated. The outer and neutral conductors are 22 millimetres apart.

In the centre is the earthing contact, which is leading due to its voltage-carrying contact pin. The non-insulated earthing contact also measures 4 x 8 x 23 millimetres.

As in Germany, the mains voltage of the sockets in the UK is 230 volts at a frequency of 50 Hz.

The power distribution units from GUDE are available with load outlets for plug type G, among others, and are manufactured as standard.

In addition to the UK, plug type G is used in the following countries

Bahrain Botswana Brunei
Gambai Ghana Gibraltar
Hong Kong Iraq Ireland
Jordan Katar Kenia
Kuwait Macau Malaysia
Malta Mauritius Nigeria
Oman Saudi-Arabia Seychellen
Singapore Tansania Uganda
United Arabian Emirates (VAE) Cypress
